Show-Me Rally: 2WD Crews to Watch
Based in Potosi, Missouri, and running many of the same roads as Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, Show-Me Rally is the last single-day event of the 2018 Rally America National Championship. This Saturday’s event will see competitors take on eight stages of just over 55 racing miles, with the winner claiming 12 points towards determining this year’s overall driver and co-driver champions.
This afternoon, we take a look at the 2-Wheel Drive competitors who have a shot at not only class victories, but perhaps even an overall podium in this weekend’s rally. These are the names you’ll want to watch for as you follow along with the Group 5, Group 2, and B-spec action:
#423 Michael Hooper/Brian Katz (starting 4th)
River City Rally will be the first 2WD car on the stages at Show-Me, as Hooper returns to Rally America action for the first time since Southern Ohio Forest Rally in May. Longtime RCR crew member Brian Katz, who helped build the car, will jump into the co-driver’s seat for the very first time this weekend.
#237 Micah Nickelson/Tyler Ptacek (starting 6th)
The winners of this event two years ago, Nickelson and Ptacek saw their Rally in the 100 Acre Wood cut short this season. They’ll be looking to bounce back at Show-Me as they return to the stages for the first time since then, hoping to replicate the pace that led to their 2016 victory.
#201 Adam VanDamme/Andrew Herron (starting 10th)
VanDamme’s 2018 season has epitomized the term “press on regardless,” as his Volkswagen Rabbit has persevered through multiple engine swaps and mechanical troubles this year. With Herron in the co-driver’s seat for this weekend, they’ll look to earn a solid finish before their home event at LSPR.
#141 Chris Sladek/John Sharps (starting 15th)
Honda’s factory-backed rally team has been a staple of Rally America competition over the past few years, and Sladek is just the latest in a long line of drivers to find success with the squad. The B-spec points leader will aim to extend his championship advantage at Show-Me alongside Sharps.
